The Advocate of Good Governance (AGG) Lagos State Chapter has warned against politicisation of the collapse of 21-storey building on Gerald Road, Ikoyi on Monday.
Also, it commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives at the collapsed 21-storey building in Ikoyi.
The group’s spokesperson, Mr. Biyi Adebiyi, stated this while addressing newsmen at the site of the incident on Thursday November 4, 2021.
According to him, the sad occurrence of the collapsed building in Lagos was a monumental disaster, which has sent many families into mourning.
Adebiyi also stated that all attention must be focussed on what happened, why it happened and how can future occurrences be prevented all together.
He said: “Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as usual of him, immediately rose to the occasion. Cut short his scheduled official engagement in Rome and went to the venue straight from the airport. Even before his arrival the General Manager in charge was immediately sent on compulsory leave.
“Within 24 hours the governor has visited the site and the surviving victims about twice and a panel of inquiry made up of capable and highly credible professionals has been put in place to unravel whatever happened and to advice government appropriately on issues including that of culpability, negligence and possible acts of criminality.”
Also while commenting on the rumours that the number of floors constructed was far in excess of the actual approved, the group stated that “it is mischievous if not evil for anyone to distract the public and begin to manufacture unverifiable fables not supported by reason or facts.”
Adebiyi stated that the rumours are just tainted with politics with no other intentions but to tarnish the image and reputation of people who have dedicated their lives to the service of their people and the nation.
