Guber race: Malami has nothing to offer, Kebbi govt declares

The Kebbi State Government has dismissed former Attorney General Abubakar Malami’s governorship ambition as “dead on arrival,” describing his recent political moves as a desperate bid for relevance.

In a statement on Monday, Governor Nasir Idris’ Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris Zuru, said Malami’s defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) signals frustration over the overwhelming support Idris enjoys within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Zuru said, “Malami’s exit from the APC and move to a party built on personal ambition rather than ideology is simply a reaction to the unanimous endorsement of Governor Idris for a second term by APC stakeholders in Kebbi.”

He noted that the state’s political landscape has shifted, with citizens now demanding results over rhetoric.

“Kebbi people are politically aware. They’re no longer fooled by empty promises — they want performance, and they’re getting that under Governor Idris,” he added.

Highlighting growing support for Idris, Zuru said all three serving senators, numerous federal and state lawmakers — including former opposition members — have thrown their weight behind the governor’s administration.

He criticized Malami’s tenure as Minister of Justice, saying it brought little benefit to Kebbi State.

“After eight years in office, he has no tangible legacy here.

“Most of the supposed gains ended up outside the state or among his close allies.”

Zuru also described Malami’s recent cash handouts, reportedly totaling $300,000, as a politically motivated stunt disguised as a loan program.

In contrast, he outlined Governor Idris’ record: empowering over 10,000 small businesses with more than N10 billion, distributing free farming equipment and fertilizers, and executing massive projects in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

“Governor Idris has delivered on real, measurable progress.

Malami’s ambition lacks substance and credibility,” he concluded, urging political aspirants to present their track records rather than relying on “blackmail and baseless accusations.”
