Gunmen attack police patrol team, kill Inspector at Oyo border

Gunmen have killed a police Inspector during an attack on a patrol team at Budo Masalasi Border Post in Oyo State.

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the incident via a statement issued on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

Olayinka disclosed that about 10 to 15 gunmen attacked ASP Entonu Shaibu and his patrol team at about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, leading to the death of Inspector Aliu Oluwole.

Olayinka said the gunmen also seized Oluwole’s AK-47 rifle with 30 rounds of ammunition.

He stated that the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, had ordered immediate manhunt and comprehensive investigation into the attack.

The police spokesman noted that preliminary findings revealed that some of the attackers sustained bullet injuries, adding that operatives are currently on their trail.

Olayinka reassured members of the public that the command had put in place adequate security measures to safeguard lives and property Oyo State.

He, therefore, urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and report any individuals with gunshot injuries.

He also called on residents to report anyone seeking medical attention for gun shots under suspicious circumstances to the nearest police station or security agency.
