No fewer than 15 worshippers have been reportedly killed after gunmen attacked a mosque in Ruwan Jema town in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
A resident of the town, who declined to named, said the gunmen hid their AK-47s inside their clothes and pretended to be worshippers.
“They came to the mosque on motorcycles but nobody suspected that they were bandits. We thought they came to observe the weekly prayers,” he added.
It was gathered that as soon as the prayers commenced, the gunmen opened fire at the worshippers, killing no fewer than 15 people.

It was further learnt that many worshippers were injured in the attack which occurred on Friday.
The incident was confirmed by the Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Mohammed Shehu.
Shehu, however, said details on the number of people killed and injured could not be immediately ascertained.
He said: “The report about the attack on Ruwan Jema Village in Bukkuyum LGA is very sketchy at the moment due to the poor road and communication networks caused by the remote nature of the area.
“However, the Police Tactical team led by the DPO and vigilante men were immediately mobilised and deployed to the village for an on-the-spot assessment.”
The police spokesperson added that more details would be provided.
