Gunmen kidnap C’River commissioner

Gunmen have kidnapped the Cross River State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Gertrude Njar, in Calabar, the state capital.

It was gathered that the commissioner was abducted by the gunmen on Wednesday.

An eyewitness, Samuel Okon, disclosed that Njar was forcefully taken out of her official car by some masked young men.

Okon said the gunmen took the Njar away in their car and abandoned her car in Calabar.

The incident was confirmed by the Special Adviser to Governor Ben Ayade on Information, Kalita Aruku, saying: “Security sources have informed us that the Commissioner for Women Affairs has been kidnapped.

“As we speak, security operatives have launched a manhunt for the kidnappers with a view to arrest them and rescue the victim unharmed,” Aruku stated.
