Gunmen kill 2 policemen, one Imo resident

Gunmen suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have killed two policemen and a resident of Akabor community in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.

It was gathered that the police officers and the resident were killed in an attack in the early hours of Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

The incident was confirmed by the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye.

Okoye, in a statement, disclosed the incident occurred on Tuesday morning when the gunmen were on a stop-and-search operation in Akabor community.

He said the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Danjuma Aboki, has deployed the command’s Special Tactical Squad to go all out in synergy with other security agencies and clamp down on the assailants.

The police spokesman noted: “The tragic incident was perpetrated in the early hours of Tuesday, June 11, 2024, by hoodlums suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate Eastern Security Network (ESN) who attacked the operatives in their numbers firing sporadically.

“The operatives fought gallantly but unfortunately, two personnel and a civilian were fatally hit.”

Okoye further quoted Aboki as commiserating with the families of the deceased and assuring the people of Imo State that no stone would be left unturned in ensuring that the culprits are brought to justice.
