Gunmen kill 5 policemen, couple in Imo

Gunmen have killed no fewer than five policemen at the Okpala Junction in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.

It was gathered that the gunmen also killed a couple, Mr and Mrs Chinaka Nwagu, during an attack which occurred at about 8 a.m. on Friday, April 21.

An eyewitness, who identified himself as Uche and a relative to the couple, disclosed that the policemen drove from neighbouring Abo Mbaise police division to eat at the junction.

Uche said some gunmen drove to the scene and opened fire on the policemen while eating at the junction.

He revealed that three police officers were shot dead at the scene of the incident, while two others who ran to a nearby shop were killed by the assailants.

He added that the gunmen also killed the couple who owned the shop.

Uche further revealed that the gunmen carted away five rifles of the police officers after they were killed.

Meanwhile, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, has yet to speak on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
