Gunmen kill DPO in Benue

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Naka Divisional Police Station in Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State has been killed.

The DPO, SP Mamud Abubakar, was gunned down by gunmen on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Benue State Command, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the killing of the DPO.

“Death of the DPO Naka confirmed. Details will follow soon please,” Anene said.

Sources said the DPO was ambushed at dilapidated Naka-Makurdi road at about 3:30p.m.

Chairman of Gwer West LGA, Andrew Ayande, has confirmed the incident.

According to him, the DPO was on his way to pick his men on routine duty when the gunmen opened fire on his vehicle.

He was alone in the vehicle.
