Gunmen kill Imo monarch, traditional ‘minister’

Gunmen have killed the traditional ruler of Orsu Obodo community in the Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, Eze Victor Ijioma.

It was gathered that the traditional prime minister of Mgbele community in Oguta LGA of Imo State was also killed in separate attacks which occurred on Thursday, May 25.

It was learned that Ijioma was killed in his car at Izombo community by the gunmen who also set his corpse ablaze.

It was further gathered that the traditional prime minister of Mgbele community was killed in his town.

Confirming the killings, the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, on Friday, said the state Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Berde, had deployed a team of investigators to arrest the assailants.

Okoye said: “The Commissioner of Police condemns in strong terms the gruesome murders of the traditional ruler and the prime minister.

“He has inaugurated high powered team of security men to go all out to arrest the hoodlums.

“We are collaborating with the military, and we have increased security presence in the areas with a view to arresting the killers.

“The Commissioner of Police commiserates with the families of the killed community leaders and prays that God gives them the fortitude to bear these irreparable losses.”
