Suspected terrorists have killed at least three Police Mobile Force officers and wounded two others in a pre-dawn attack on a PMF camp in Tenebo community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, triggering panic among residents who fled their homes as heavy gunfire rocked the agrarian settlement.
The assailants, who arrived in large numbers, launched a surprise assault on the camp in the early hours of Saturday, overpowering officers on duty before executing the attack.
A resident, Suleiman Issa, said the incident occurred at about 1am.
“This ugly killings happened at the early hours of 1am, just at midnight in Tenebo village, Kaiama. A terrible situation happened! Bandits came in their large numbers and invaded the villagers, people were killed and some were wounded,” he said.
The Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident, saying further details would follow.
“I regret to confirm that an attack on the PMF Camp occurred in the early hours of today. I will provide more accurate and detailed information shortly,” Ejire-Adeyemi said.
The attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents that have steadily eroded security across Kaiama Local Government Area.
On April 20, suspected terrorists overran a joint security outpost in Kemanji community, killing at least three soldiers and two vigilantes and carting away an army gun truck along with other equipment.
Ten days earlier, on April 10, five members of a local forest guard unit were killed in Nuku community, with attackers burning operational vehicles and facilities.
The sustained violence follows a February 2026 attack on Woro and Nuku communities in which over 200 people were reportedly killed and approximately 176 others abducted, including women and children.
