Hardship: Woman crushed to death after dropping children in police station

A mother of three has been crushed by a hit-and-run driver after dropping her children at Ogui Police Station in Enugu North Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The woman was said to have gone to the police station on Saturday, March 2, 2024, over the economic hardship and rising cost of living in the country.

It was gathered that the woman, whose identity has yet to be ascertained went to Ogui Police Station and dropped her three kids without leaving a word with anyone.

An eyewitness, who craved anonymity, said the middle-aged woman, stripped herself naked, came out of the station situated along Ogui Road in Enugu, and ran into a moving vehicle which crushed her to death.

The Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, has yet to react to the incident as of press time.

Meanwhile, the wife of Enugu State Governor, Nkechinyere Mbah, has undertaken to sponsor the children’s living and education.

Mbah’s wife announced the scholarship to be undertaken through her Custos Care Foundation when she paid an unscheduled visit to the Ogui Police Station, where the children were kept.

She appealed to people who are depressed to seek help and go for counselling to avoid making drastic decisions.

She also urged the Enugu State Commissioner of Children, Gender and Social Development, Ngozi Enih, to intensify sensitisation and counselling of people, especially depressed persons to help them come out of the situation.
