The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested two teenagers, Umar Yahaya and Musa Al-Hassan, over an alleged plan to organise a “gay” birthday party during the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebration in Kano.
The Deputy Commandant General of the board, Mujahideen Aminudeen, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
Aminudeen said the suspects, aged 19 and 18, were apprehended after allegedly using social media to invite individuals described as pimps from different parts of the country to attend a birthday gathering scheduled to hold after the Eid prayer.
According to him, the teenagers claimed to be members of the Yan Daudu group and had planned a celebration that would involve dancing and other activities the board described as immoral.
He noted that the suspects had apologised and expressed remorse for their actions. Instead of prosecuting them immediately, the Hisbah Board decided to place them under supervision to undergo guidance and religious counselling.
The Hisbah official also disclosed that the board would deploy personnel to monitor mosques and public areas in the final days of Ramadan following complaints that some individuals attending late-night prayers were engaging in inappropriate activities.
