The Hisbah Command in Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State has arrested a young man accused of using vulcanising rubber adhesive to incapacitate chickens before allegedly stealing them.
The suspect (name withheld) was arrested after Hisbah operatives reportedly received information about the alleged theft and launched an investigation.
According to the agency’s Information and Communication Technology officer in Dutsinma, Malam Maidoki, said the suspect allegedly mixed the substance locally known as Sholisho with grain and placed it where chickens could feed.
He said the chickens became intoxicated after consuming the treated grain, leaving them incapacitated and unable to escape.
The suspect would then allegedly gather the affected birds and take them away.
Hisbah said its personnel, operating under the command of Dutsinma Commander Malam Shafi’u Ibrahim, arrested the suspect and recovered some of the chickens allegedly taken during the operation.
The agency said investigations were still ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft and determine the appropriate action against the suspect.
The arrest highlights an unusual method allegedly used to steal domestic animals, with the suspect accused of exploiting the effects of the adhesive after it was mixed with food.
