Hoodlums attack APC campaign offices in Zamfara, kill 2

No fewer than two persons were killed while property worth millions of naira were destroyed after some hoodlums suspected to be political thugs attacked the campaign offices of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Monday shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dauda Lawal, as the winner of the March 18 governorship election in Zamfara State.

Lawal polled 377,726 votes to defeat Governor Bello Matawalle of the APC who scored 311,976 votes.

Confirming the incident on Thursday, the Coordinator of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Zamfara State, Sen. Kabiru Marafa, said the hoodlums vandalised the party’s buildings during the attack.

Marafa, who inspected the campaign offices on Thursday, told journalists that he cannot quantify the monetary value of the level of damage to the APC campaign offices.

He further described the incident as unfortunate, calling on politicians in the state to call their supporters to order to prevent the recurrence of the attack in the future.

Meanwhile, the Zamfara State Police Command has yet to speak on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
