Hoodlums attack journalists at Oyetola’s rally in Osun

No fewer than four vehicles conveying journalists were attacked by hoodlums at the campaign venue of Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, in Gbongan, Ayedaade Local Government Area of the state on Monday.

The Osun State governorship election has been slated for July 16, 2022.

It was gathered that the newsmen were attacked after Oyetola addressed his supporters at Arapajo area of Gbongan.

The assailants, who were armed with cutlasses, cudgels, axes, stones, and other weapons, smashed the windows of the vehicles conveying the journalists injuring four of them.

The suspected political thugs also attacked the All Progressives Congress members’ vehicles, leaving many injured.

It was, however, learnt that the injured newsmen were taken to a private hospital at Ogo-Oluwa Area of Osogbo, the state capital for treatment.

Speaking on the incident via a statement on Tuesday, the Osun APC chairman, Gboyega Famodun, described the attack as “wicked, uncivilized, crude, callous, shocking, inhuman and against the tenets of democracy”.

Famodun, who condemned the attack, commiserated with the journalists and some APC members who were attacked by the hoodlums.

The ACP chairman, who said the nefarious act was carried out by some people who are afraid of defeat during the forthcoming governorship election, said: “I cannot fathom the reason for the attack.

“I commiserate with the chapel over the attack of four of their members by suspected political thugs shortly after the governor and his entourage left the campaign venue at Gbongan on Monday.

“No amount of provocation, through physical and verbal attacks, would prevent Governor Oyetola from coasting to victory in his re-election bid on July 16, 2022,” he stated.
