EFCC operatives lay siege to Okorocha’s residence

The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Tuesday, stormed the residence of a former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, in Abuja.

The residence of the former governor was also surrounded by armed police officers.

An official of the anti-graft agency, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Okorocha has been snubbing several invitations extended to him over alleged corruption against him.

Meanwhile, the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, has yet to react to the latest development as of the time of filing this report.

Okorocha, a presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is being charged by the EFCC with allegations that he conspired with others, including an APC politician and five companies, to steal N2.9 billion from public coffers when he was governor of Imo.

The Star had reported that Okorocha, on February 3, 2022, rushed to the Presidential Villa in Abuja to seek President Muhammadu Buhari’s intervention over his ordeal with the EFCC.

Speaking to State House correspondents, the two-term former governor of Imo State accused the EFCC of “unjust harassment”.

He claimed that he had secured court judgement and two court orders at different forums, which stop the anti-graft agency from harassing and intimidating him.

Okorocha further accused some people he described as cowards of being behind his ordeal with the EFCC.
