NSCDC uncovers theft at Jigawa nursing school, arrests four

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested four suspects over the alleged theft of aluminium roofing sheets from the School of Nursing in Hadejia, Jigawa State.

The arrests were made during a surveillance operation by personnel of the Corps’ Gandun Sarki Division, who intercepted the suspects behind the institution’s fence with roofing materials believed to have been removed from an ongoing renovation project.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the state, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani, said officers recovered 13 square metres of aluminium roofing sheets during the operation.

Those arrested include Adamu Mohd, a security guard attached to the school, Dan Inu Mohd, a carpenter, Isma’ila Adamu, a tricycle operator, and Bashari Yahaya, an apprentice.

According to the command, preliminary findings suggest that the alleged involvement of one of the school’s security personnel exposed weaknesses in the institution’s internal security arrangement.

The NSCDC said it has notified the management of the School of Nursing about the security concerns and advised it to strengthen measures to safeguard government property.

Jigawa State Commandant of the Corps, Muhammad Ingawa, reiterated the agency’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and tackling acts of vandalism across the state.

He warned individuals involved in the destruction or theft of public assets to desist, stressing that the command would sustain intelligence-driven operations to track down and prosecute offenders.

The four suspects remain in custody as investigations continue into the alleged theft.
