A member of a local hunters’ group has died after an accidental explosion during a joint patrol with military troops in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 10:15 a.m. on April 24, when troops of 232 Battalion (Tactical) and members of the hunters’ group conducted a fighting patrol around the Member Farm and Dogon Kuka areas.
According to the sources, the explosion happened as the patrol team was returning along the Garkida-Gombi axis.
One of the hunters accidentally stepped on a primed rocket-propelled grenade tube inside a gun truck, triggering a partial explosion.
The hunter sustained a severe fracture to his left leg and was immediately evacuated to a medical facility, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
