Former Kogi State Senator, Dino Melaye, has revealed that his journey into investment and wealth creation began at a young age, saying proceeds from selling a goat helped him pay his school fees at Ahmadu Bello University.
Melaye made the disclosure in a video interview while recounting his early financial experiences, investment journey and interests in international businesses.
According to him, he started learning about investment from a young age and used proceeds from a goat and its offspring to fund his education.
“I paid for my first year in Ahmadu Bello, my school fees through that goat,” he said.
Melaye said his interest in investment later expanded beyond Nigeria, noting that he began investing internationally on a large scale about 27 years ago.
“I did that 27 years ago,” he said, recalling a period when the euro exchanged for about N60.
He explained that he maintained his investments by rolling returns over the years rather than abandoning them.
“I rolled it over year after year. Still there,” he said.
Melaye also cited investments in major global companies, including Apple and Microsoft, as examples of his approach to international investment.
He recalled buying shares in Microsoft and investing in other companies, including Uber, saying some of his investment decisions initially attracted ridicule from his friends.
“Got some shares. People were laughing. Then COVID came and Zoom went times 400,” he said.
The former lawmaker also spoke about investing in franchise businesses in the United States, saying he had been involved in such investments for more than two decades.
According to Melaye, his investment strategy has continued regardless of his political career and public office status.
He suggested that people seeking financial success should seek proper guidance before investing, while stressing the importance of starting early and allowing investments to grow over time.
The comments come amid renewed public interest in Melaye’s financial journey and activities outside politics, particularly his claims about investing in international assets and businesses.
