I won’t inherit Makinde’s liabilities — APM candidate

The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement in Oyo State, Abimbola Adekanmbi, has rejected claims that he is a political surrogate of Governor Seyi Makinde.

Adekanmbi, a former Oyo State Commissioner for Finance, made the clarification during an interview on Arise News on Tuesday.

He said that although he had served in Makinde’s administration, he had developed his own policy agenda and would govern the state according to his own manifesto if elected.

Adekanmbi added that he would take full responsibility for his decisions and would not inherit the political enemies or liabilities of the incumbent governor.

“I’m no surrogate to Governor Makinde. The governor made it clear that I shouldn’t inherit his enemies or liabilities.

“I’m owning every action I take as governor, just as I have always owned my actions in life. I own it, and I’m prepared. I have my own manifesto and strategy,” he said.

The APM candidate also dismissed the suggestion that Makinde single-handedly determined the candidates fielded for elective positions under the platform.

According to him, the emergence of the governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates followed consultations and engagements with stakeholders across the state.

“The governor did not sit in his office and simply drop a list. There was a process that led to the emergence of all the candidates.

“There were consultations and public engagements, with input from every sector and region of Oyo State. The governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates all emerged through consensus,” Adekanmbi said.

He maintained that the process involved contributions from different sectors and regions of Oyo State, rather than being the product of a unilateral decision by the governor.
