IED killed at least four people have been killed and 18 others injured in two separate improvised explosive device (IED) explosions in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The blasts, suspected to have been planted by ISWAP terrorists, occurred on Friday along the Goniri–Buni Yadi road.
According to reports by Zagazola Makama, the first incident happened when a commercial pickup van carrying traders to the Buni Yadi weekly market hit an IED near Bultaram village. Three passengers died from the blast, while 18 others sustained various injuries and were rushed to the Yobe State Specialist Hospital in Damaturu for treatment.
Hospital sources confirmed that the deceased were taken to the morgue for autopsy.
A second explosion occurred a few hours later in the same area, claiming the life of an unidentified cyclist who unknowingly rode over another IED. He was taken to the Buni Yadi General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Security agencies, including explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) teams and local vigilantes, have been deployed to the area for clearance operations. Surveillance and search efforts are ongoing to detect and neutralize any additional threats.
