The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday decorated eight senior officers recently promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) at a ceremony held at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking during the event, Disu described the promotion as a recognition of decades of dedication, professional excellence and leadership within the force.
He urged the newly promoted officers to provide strategic direction, strengthen internal discipline and drive reforms that would enhance the effectiveness of policing across the country.
The police chief also called on them to utilise their experience in intelligence-led policing, operational coordination, inter-agency collaboration and accountability in addressing evolving security challenges.
Disu expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support to the police and commended the Police Service Commission for ensuring transparency and professionalism in the promotion process.
He also acknowledged the support of families of the promoted officers, noting that their encouragement had contributed to the officers’ successful careers.
The newly decorated DIGs are Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Fayoade Adegoke Mustapha and Umar Shehu Nadada.
The IGP, the newly promoted DIGs and the Force Secretary, Olabode Adeleye Akinbamilowo, now constitute the new Force Management Team.
Dignitaries at the ceremony included the Chairman of the House Committee on Air Force, Kabir Alhassan Rurum; Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS, Temitope Ilori; former Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Danladi Kefas; and former Chairman of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, Jide Adeniji.
Others in attendance included Marilyn Ogar, a former spokesperson of the Department of State Services, as well as several retired senior police officers.
