IGP probes attack on police officer in Abuja

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, has ordered an investigation into the attack on a police officer, Inspector Omeje Matthew, in Abuja.

Egbetokun made the directive when he visited the police officer who was on admission at the National Trauma Centre, National Hospital in Abuja on Thursday, September 28, 2023.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the IGP said the visit was to assess the condition of the officer who was brutally attacked and macheted by armed hoodlums at his residence in the Kabusa area of Abuja.

He directed the Commissioner of Police (CP) in FCT to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, adding that the investigation would ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.

The IGP also urged other police commissioners and Tactical Commanders to ensure proper closure of all pending investigations into attacks on police officers within their respective jurisdictions.
