Ijaw leader, Edwin Clark, dies at 97

Prominent Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, is dead.

Clark, a former Minister of Information, died at the age of 97.

The elder statesman breathed his last on Monday, February 17, 2025.

Clark’s death was confirmed in a statement signed by Prof. C. C. Clark on behalf of the family and Mr. Penawei Clark on behalf of his children.

“The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, wishes to announce the passing of Chief (Dr.) Sen. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, OFR, CON, on Monday, 17th February 2025,” the statement read.

The family expressed appreciation for prayers and support during this time of mourning.

It added that further details regarding his funeral arrangements would be communicated in due course.

Clark’s death marks the end of an era for the Niger Delta struggle.
