Troops intercept Boko Haram fuel suppliers in Yobe

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have intercepted a vehicle allegedly transporting logistics supplies to Boko Haram terrorists in Yusufari Local Government Area of Yobe State.

According to security sources, the operation was executed on Monday by personnel of the 241 Battalion stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Jajimaji. While on a night patrol, the troops reportedly spotted two vehicles loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at a filling station in the Yusuf Abah area of Yusufari.

The occupants attempted to escape upon sighting the soldiers, prompting a pursuit. One of the vehicles, a Volkswagen Golf, was intercepted, while the second managed to flee.

A search of the intercepted vehicle uncovered seven sacks of PMS, each containing approximately 77 litres of fuel.

The driver, Mohammed Idi, 25, and his assistant, Mero Umra, 21, were arrested at the scene. The filling station manager, Hasan Liman, 50, and a security guard, Jibril Audu, 28, were also taken into custody.

Troops further recovered ₦1.6 million in cash, suspected to be proceeds or funds connected to the illicit supply chain.

The suspects and all seized items are currently being held by the military for further investigation.

The interception underscores ongoing military efforts to disrupt the logistics networks that continue to support insurgent operations in the North-East.
