The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced February 21, 2026, for election in the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
INEC announced the election date in a statement on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
The electoral umpire stressed the importance of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for the election, adding that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be used for voter verification in the poll.

INEC said: “The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct elections in all six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday, February 21, 2026, starting at 8:30 a.m. across all polling units in the FCT.
“Only registered voters with valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will be allowed to vote.
Voting will take place at polling units where voters are registered.
“The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be used for voter verification. No PVC, no voting.”
