The leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is currently meeting with the two factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, the nation’s capital, over the leadership crisis rocking the opposition party.
The meeting has the Tanimu Turaki-led faction and the Nyesom Wike-backed Abdulrahman Mohammed faction.
Some of those who accompanied Turaki are members of his National Working Committee (NWC), secretariat staff, and former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu.
On his part, Mohammed was accompanied by members of his national caretaker committee, including the secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
The PDP has been embroiled in a leadership crisis following a struggle for control of the party between two rival factions.
As a result of the crisis, several politicians have defected from the party to other political parties, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), ahead of the 2027 general election.
