Inferno: Churches, pastors, others rally support for Household of David

Massive support has continued to pour in for the Household of David Church which had its Ikeja, Lagos State premises gutted by fire last Wednesday, just hours before the commencement of its annual Mercy Conference 2024.

The fire incident, which occurred on the morning of the conference, razed the church’s multi-million naira auditorium alongside high-end gadgets and forced the annual programme’s first day to take place outside the church’s premises.

The rest of the conference later took place at the auditorium of Daystar Christian Centre.

Reacting to the tragedy, the Senior Pastor of Household of David, Pastor Olusola Osunmakinde, said, “It is a painful experience”, adding that the church’s air conditioners, chairs, and other equipment were all burnt.

However, no life was lost during the inferno.

But in what can be described as an outpouring of love, ministers and churches across and outside the country have continued to extend support to the church at their hour of need.

Ministers like Reverend Sam Olu Alo of the Christ Apostolic Church, Pastor Jerry Eze, Pastor Andy Osakwe, and Bishop Wale Oke have been donating to the church.

Also, Pastor David Ogbueli of Dominion City Church attended the conference and reportedly gave N10 million to support the church.

While a popular gospel music minister, Dunsin Oyekan, mobilized funds on social media by putting up the church’s account number on his social media pages, Rev. Sam Adeyemi of the Daystar Centre offered their facilities to Household of David church to continue their conference at no cost.

Speaking during the five-day conference on the show of love extended so far to his church, Pastor Sola said the narrative out there that there is no love in the body of Christ is not true.

He said: “We give God all the glory! Again, thank God for men like this in our generation. Sincerely, the only time I wanted to cry was when I saw it – Display of love from brethren and I said it yesterday and I’m saying it again. Correct that narrative out there that there is no love in the Body of Christ, it’s not true. It is not true! People say that even among Christians, there’s no love. “People I have never met. Reverend Sam Olu Alo is a CAC Prophet, I’ve never met him, I got a message and a huge amount from him. And then, God bless Pastor Jerry Eze, he sent something unusual this afternoon. Pastor Bolaji, Pastor Andy Osakwe. Now, Daddy Wale Oke called me today, Bishop Taiwo Adelakun in Ibadan. Different people, fathers I can’t mention.

“I woke up this morning with a call from Pastor Tunde Bakare, different people! People I’m not very close to, people that I haven’t seen in four, five years, getting a call. I just saw online a church raising prayer for Household of David, not a familiar Church.

“Even some men of God took it upon themselves to put up that they (Household of David) are now, the meeting goes up and they will be using Daystar. God is awesome. When Pastor Nath called, when Minister Dunsin called, when Pastor Victoria called, I almost started crying. They just laughed and said some things Scripturally and I just paused.

“Minister Dunsin refused to let us accommodate him, he dodged and dodged till now, it will shock you that the Church protocol don’t know where they are staying. He just said: ‘You will see us at the Hall’! He said: ‘Don’t just bother yourself about anything’! Thanks! And I saw again that he put up the church’s account on his page”.

The Mercy Conference 2024, tagged, “The Resurrection” took place as though nothing happened a few hours into the programme. Thousands of worshippers daily trooped the programme while many who couldn’t physically attend streamed online.

Meanwhile, the rebuilding of the church is set to commence after the Lagos State government has concluded its investigation into the fire incident.

The state government had earlier set up a committee comprised of members of the church, with oversight from the State Fire and Rescue Service.
