Iran declares Saturday as Eid-el-Fitr after Ramadan completes 30 days

Iran has officially announced that the holy month of Ramadan will conclude on Friday, with Eid-el-Fitr set to be observed on Saturday across the country.

According to state television, the office of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei confirmed that Friday would mark the 30th day of Ramadan following lunar observations, paving the way for the Eid celebration the next day.

A similar announcement was made in Iraq by leading Shia cleric Ali al-Sistani, aligning both Shia-majority nations on the date of the festival.

The development comes shortly after Khamenei assumed leadership, succeeding his father, Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed in an airstrike at the onset of the US-Israeli conflict with Iran—referred to by Tehran as the “Ramadan war.”

Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting period, is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon in accordance with the Islamic lunar calendar.

This year’s conclusion of Ramadan coincides with Nowruz, the Persian New Year celebrated on the spring equinox.

Ramadan is one of Islam’s five pillars, during which Muslims fast from dawn to sunset and are encouraged to engage in charity and spiritual reflection.
