The Edo State Government has launched a series of infrastructure projects at Ambrose Alli University, marking a significant step toward strengthening medical education at the institution.
The initiative, which focuses on the College of Medicine, underscores ongoing efforts to reposition the university for improved academic performance and global competitiveness.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Dan Osi Orbih, described the projects as both timely and strategic. He noted that the intervention reflects the government’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure gaps and enhancing the quality of medical training.
Orbih commended the Edo State Government for prioritizing the institution’s development, adding that the projects would significantly improve teaching and learning conditions within the College of Medicine.
Also speaking, Vice-Chancellor Eunice Omozejie said the development signals a new phase of growth for the university. She described the projects as transformative, noting that they would expand the institution’s capacity to train highly skilled medical professionals while improving the overall learning environment.
She expressed appreciation to the state government for its continued support and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to maximizing the use of the new facilities for academic and research advancement.
The projects include the construction of three 500-capacity lecture halls to accommodate the growing number of medical students, as well as two hostels providing a combined 600 bed spaces to ease accommodation challenges.
In addition, twin lecture theatres with a capacity of 300 each will be built to support large academic activities, seminars, and specialized medical instruction.
Stakeholders say the developments are expected to significantly boost the standing of AAU’s College of Medicine and further establish it as a key player in Nigeria’s medical education sector.
