Iranian authorities have executed a man convicted of supporting the United States and Israel during the anti-government protests that rocked the country in January 2026.
Majid Adineh was executed on Sunday after the Supreme Court upheld a death sentence handed down by the Karaj Revolutionary Court, according to Iran’s judiciary-linked Mizan Online news service.
The court had convicted Adineh of carrying out operations in support of hostile groups, deliberate arson, and gathering and colluding to commit crimes against Iran’s internal security. His property was also ordered confiscated.
Adineh was arrested on January 9 in Mohammadshahr, an area of Karaj in Alborz Province, by intelligence forces of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Iranian authorities said a handgun, ammunition, two electric shock devices, tear gas sprays, a battery-powered chainsaw and gasoline were recovered from him during the arrest.
The claims surrounding his arrest and statements attributed to him could not be independently verified.
His execution comes amid a wider crackdown linked to the protests, which began in late December 2025 over rising living costs before developing into nationwide demonstrations against the government.
Iranian authorities have blamed the unrest and accompanying violence on what they described as terrorist activities backed by the United States and Israel.
Human rights groups, however, have raised concerns over the trials of protesters, alleging the use of coerced confessions and excessive application of the death penalty.
According to the latest available figures, Iranian authorities have executed 483 people so far in 2026, with many of those sentenced to death reportedly linked to the January protests.
Rights groups said Iran executed 1,639 people in 2025, its highest annual figure since 1989.
