JAMB extends deadline for candidates to accept previous admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for candidates offered admission between 2021 and 2026 to accept or reject their outstanding admission offers.

The new deadline is September 30, 2026, following the earlier deadline of August 31.

JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Dr Fabian Benjamin, announced the extension in a statement on Saturday in Abuja, describing it as the final opportunity for affected candidates, including those with regular and Centralised University International Admission (CUIIA) offers, to take action.

Benjamin urged candidates with outstanding offers to accept or reject them before the new deadline, warning that failure to do so would affect the status of their admissions.

Candidates who accept their offers will be able to print their admission letters, while those who reject them will have their dashboards reverted to “Not Admitted.”

According to JAMB, candidates who are no longer studying at the institutions where they were previously offered admission can still accept the outstanding offer and subsequently apply for the appropriate correction or deletion of the admission.

The board said the same option applied to candidates who had moved to different programmes.

However, candidates currently pursuing a second degree but who still have an unaccepted previous admission were advised to reject the outstanding offer and continue with their current programmes.

JAMB also assured candidates admitted during the 2026 admission exercise that rejecting a previous outstanding offer would not affect their new admission.

“Such candidates may reject the previous admission offer, and doing so will have no adverse effect whatsoever on their 2026 admission,” Benjamin said.

He said the extension was aimed at giving affected candidates a final opportunity to regularise their admission status while enabling JAMB to maintain accurate and reliable national admission records.

Benjamin warned that after September 30, all outstanding admission offers from 2021 to date that have neither been accepted nor rejected would automatically be reverted to “Not Admitted” status.

He urged affected candidates to act promptly, stressing that failure to accept an admission offer within the stipulated period would render it invalid.
