JAMB targets N23.8bn revenue in 2026

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has set an Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) target of N23.8 billion for the 2026 fiscal year.

A Director at JAMB Registrar’s office, Dr Muftau Bello, disclosed during the defence of the examination body’s 2026 budget estimates in Abuja on Wednesday, February 25.

JAMB officials appeared before the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND to present the examination body’s proposals for the year.

Bello said N6 billion from the projected N23.8 billion would be remitted to the federation account.

“A total of N30.6 billion is proposed as JAMB’s 2026 budget. Of this, N23.8 billion will be generated internally and N6 billion remitted as operating surplus,” Bello said.

He disclosed that JAMB generated N18.5 billion as IGR and remitted N4 billion to the federation account in 2025.

On preparations for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Bello said 1,000 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres had been established nationwide.

He explained that the new centres were in addition to the 800 created in 2025.

Senator Amos Yohanna Amos urged JAMB to reduce the UTME registration fee, citing hardship in the country.

Yohanna said many children in rural communities struggled to raise funds for registration, limiting their academic ambitions.

Responding, Bello said the fee was reduced from N5,000 to N3,500 under the current leadership.

Impressed by the board’s performance, the lawmakers commended the examination body for what they described as effective stewardship of its mandate.
