Lagos shuts Lekki–Epe expressway for rehabilitation

The Lagos State Government has announced the temporary closure of the Epe-bound carriageway of the Lekki–Epe Expressway from Admiralty Way Junction to Jubilee Bridge in Ajah to allow ongoing rehabilitation works.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Ministry of Transportation and signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi.

According to the government, the full closure of the Epe-bound lane is necessary to enable uninterrupted construction across intersections along the corridor.

To ease movement during the exercise, traffic will be diverted to the Lagos-bound carriageway with lane adjustments during peak periods. In the morning peak between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., two lanes will serve Lagos-bound traffic while one lane will accommodate vehicles heading toward Epe. During the evening and night peak from 3:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m., two lanes will serve Epe-bound traffic and one lane Lagos-bound traffic.

Motorists were advised to consider the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road as an alternative route where possible.

The government said officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other traffic personnel would be deployed along the corridor, while a tow truck would remain on standby to respond to breakdowns and emergencies.

It added that night operations would involve partial closures and restricted traffic at major intersections including Admiralty Way, Maruwa, Freedom Way, Chisco, Jakande, Igbo-Efon, Chevron, Lekki Conservation Toll Plaza, VGC and Jubilee Bridge. All intersections along the corridor will be fully closed for up to eight hours at night during asphalt laying to ensure safety and quality delivery.

The rehabilitation will be executed in phases covering multiple segments from Admiralty Way to Jubilee Bridge, with durations ranging from five to thirteen days per section. Similar works will also be carried out on the Lagos-bound carriageway in stages.

The government explained that the traffic arrangement follows the completion of the Chevron-to-Admiralty Way stretch on the Lagos-bound lane and is intended to support continued reconstruction of the Epe-bound axis.

Residents and motorists were urged to cooperate with traffic officials, obey diversion signage and plan their trips ahead throughout the construction period, while authorities promised to provide updates as work progresses.
