JD Vance, wife welcome fourth child, first VP baby in over 150 years

Vice President JD Vance and second lady Usha Vance have announced the birth of their fourth child, a baby boy named Alec Neel Vance, born on Sunday.

In a statement signed by the couple, they said Usha and the baby were happy and healthy, and that their other children were overjoyed to meet their new brother.

They also expressed gratitude to military doctors and staff at the Walter Reed Medical Center, and the White House Medical Unit for their care throughout the process.

Alec Neel Vance joins older siblings Ewan, 9; Vivek, 6; and Mirabel, 4.

His birth marks the first child born to a sitting vice president in more than 150 years, with the last such instance being that of Schuyler Colfax, whose son was born in 1870 while Colfax served as vice president to Ulysses S. Grant.

Vance’s growing family comes in keeping with his vocal advocacy for Americans to have more children.

The vice president has also suggested that the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a friend of his who was shot and killed last year, played a role in the decision to have another child.

President Donald Trump also reacted to the news, sharing a photo of the newborn on social media and congratulating the couple.
