Job seeker collapses as wife delivers triplets in Kogi

A man identified as Adamu Muhammed Tenimu reportedly collapsed in shock and emotion at the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lokoja, Kogi State, after learning that his wife had given birth to a set of triplets.

The incident occurred on Friday, moments after the successful delivery.

Eyewitnesses said Tenimu, a job seeker, fainted upon hearing that his wife had delivered three healthy baby girls. Medical personnel and sympathisers at the scene quickly attended to him and managed to revive him.

Both the mother and her newborn daughters are said to be in stable condition.

The babies, weighing 1.8kg, 2.0kg, and 2.3kg respectively, are currently under observation at the hospital’s neonatal unit and are responding well to care.

Speaking with journalists shortly after regaining consciousness, Tenimu expressed a mixture of joy and despair. He thanked God for the safe delivery but was visibly distraught over his family’s financial struggles.

“This is a miracle, but I’m in shock,” he said tearfully. “We only prepared for one baby. We didn’t have enough money for regular scans, so we didn’t know it was triplets. Now, we can’t even afford the hospital bills, let alone care for three babies.”

Tenimu added that the family’s situation is dire, with no money for basic baby items such as diapers and food.

“This blessing is also a burden. I don’t know where to start,” he lamented.

Family members and eyewitnesses have confirmed the family’s financial hardship and are appealing for urgent assistance.

They are calling on government authorities, non-governmental organisations, religious bodies, and kind-hearted Nigerians to provide support.

“The babies are fine, but the family desperately needs help. We’re calling for immediate intervention from the government and the public,” a family member said.

Friends and well-wishers have started mobilising resources, urging the Kogi State Government and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to come to the family’s aid.

“This is a responsible man facing an extraordinary challenge,” said Nuhu Alhassan, a colleague of Tenimu.

“This situation deserves serious attention.”

Appeals have also gone out to charitable individuals and organisations to donate baby essentials, food items, and financial support for the hospital expenses.

“The joy of childbirth should not be marred by financial fear.

“As a society, we must support families in need,” said another sympathiser, Sikiru Olamide.

The family remains hopeful as calls for assistance continue to spread, and the triplets remain in good condition under medical supervision.
