Kamala Harris opposes Trump’s Iran strikes, warns against ‘war of choice’

Former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has strongly criticised President Donald Trump over the administration’s military strikes on Iran, describing the action as a “dangerous and unnecessary gamble” that could drag the United States into a broader war.

In a statement released on February 28, 2026, Harris said she opposed what she called a regime-change war in Iran, arguing that American troops were being placed in harm’s way for what she termed “Trump’s war of choice.”

“Donald Trump is dragging the United States into a war the American people do not want,” Harris said, adding that while Iran poses a threat and must never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon, military escalation was not the right approach to dismantling that threat.

The Vice President warned that the conflict could result in American casualties and destabilise the broader Middle East region, undermining U.S. standing globally. She emphasised support for U.S. service members but questioned the president’s judgment in matters of war and peace.

“Our troops deserve a Commander-in-Chief who approaches decisions on matters of war and peace with the same steadiness and discipline our troops show every day,” she said.

Harris also raised constitutional concerns, noting that under the U.S. Constitution, the president must obtain authorisation from Congress before entering a war. She urged lawmakers to use “all available power” to prevent further escalation.

During the statement, Harris accused Trump of breaking campaign promises to end wars rather than start them and criticised previous claims that Iran’s nuclear programme had been “obliterated.”

The remarks come amid heightened tensions following joint U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iranian targets, an operation that has sharply divided political leaders in Washington and drawn global attention.
