Kano ADC rejects presidential primary results, alleges electoral fraud

The Kano State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the outcome of the party’s presidential primary election in the state, alleging irregularities and diversion of electoral materials.

In a petition addressed to the Chairman of the Kano State Primary Appeals Committee, the party accused its Deputy National Chairman (North), Najja’atu Mohammed, and other unnamed individuals of hijacking the electoral process.

The petition, co-signed by the state chairman, Musa Shuaibu Ungogo, and secretary, Dr Bala Inuwa Takai, alleged that materials meant for the primary were diverted from the designated venue.

According to the state leadership, the materials were allegedly taken to a private residence, where results of what it described as a non-existent election were fabricated.

The party expressed concern over what it called a sudden shift in the conduct of the national electoral committee, noting that previous primaries were conducted in collaboration with the state structure without controversy.

It maintained that party primaries are expected to involve coordinated efforts between national and state officials, with processes established at ward and polling unit levels to ensure transparency.

The Kano chapter said the alleged actions undermined internal democracy and denied aspirants a fair contest.

Consequently, it called on the appeals committee and the party’s national leadership to disregard the results announced for the state.

The chapter also demanded the conduct of a fresh presidential primary and urged the party to investigate and sanction those allegedly involved.

Copies of the petition were forwarded to the party’s national leadership for further action.
