Kano APC endorses Tinubu for 2027 as Barau inaugurates federal university

Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has led members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano North to pass a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, endorsing his second-term bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During a political gathering at his hometown in Kabo, Kano State, Barau rallied thousands of APC supporters and received a wave of defectors from the Kwankwasiyya movement, who left the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) to join the APC.

The event also featured the official commissioning of the newly upgraded Federal Polytechnic Kabo, now converted to the Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo. The transformation was approved by President Tinubu following a proposal facilitated by Senator Barau and passed by the Senate.

Barau praised President Tinubu for his unwavering support for education and infrastructural development in Kano and the wider Northwest. He noted that the president’s responsiveness to the region’s needs is a strong reason why Kano North will overwhelmingly support his re-election bid in 2027.

“Our people asked for an upgrade of the Federal College of Education to a university. I took the request to the President, and he didn’t hesitate — he signed it immediately,” Barau said. “Not long after, we requested a new Federal Polytechnic, and again, he approved it. That is the kind of leadership we need.”

He described the establishment of the new university as a significant milestone, not just for Kano but for Northern Nigeria as a whole, pointing to Tinubu’s commitment to grassroots development through education.

“President Tinubu understands that educating the grassroots is the foundation of nation-building. His approval of every development proposal we’ve brought forward is a testament to his dedication to this cause,” he added.

Barau also recounted Tinubu’s intervention in restoring the upgrade status of Yusuf Maitama Sule University to a Federal University of Education after an earlier reversal.

“When that decision was rescinded, I approached the President again, presented a proposal, and he approved it right there. This shows his sensitivity and quick action in addressing regional concerns,” he said.

Minister of State for Housing, Alhaji Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, who also spoke at the event, commended Tinubu’s administration for its commitment to inclusive development and equitable educational access across all regions of Nigeria.

The event underscored growing political momentum for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign, especially in Kano and across Northern Nigeria, with the APC banking on recent federal investments in education and infrastructure to bolster grassroots support.
