Kano assembly member defects back to APC after losing NDC ticket

Hon. Muhammad Ahmad Tomas, who represents Makoda Constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly, has left the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmaker made his defection known on Monday during a visit to the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, at his residence in Abuja. He was accompanied by the chairmen of Makoda and Dambatta Local Government Areas, Alhaji Isa Currency and Alhaji Jamilu Abubakar Dambatta.

Jibrin, while receiving Tomas, described the move as both timely and commendable, noting that it reflects a commitment to good governance and development. He also assured the returning lawmaker of fair treatment and equal opportunities within the APC, highlighting the party’s wide national influence.

In a post shared on his Facebook page, the Deputy Senate President expressed optimism that Tomas’ return would strengthen the party’s base in Kano North, Kano State, and beyond.

The defection follows Tomas’ recent loss of the NDC ticket to contest for a second term, a decision said to have been reached through consensus within the party.

Tomas had previously defected from the APC to the NDC, where he was welcomed by party figure Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, before making his return to the ruling party.
