Kano govt calls for Ganduje’s arrest over inciting security remarks

The Kano State Executive Council has demanded the immediate investigation and arrest of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, citing what it described as “inciting and reckless” comments on the state’s security situation.

The call came after the Council’s 34th Executive Meeting on Thursday at the Government House, Kano, where members reviewed recent statements attributed to Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.

Both officials had warned that Kano was increasingly vulnerable to bandit attacks and revealed plans to recruit 12,000 personnel for a proposed religious police force, Khairul Nas.

Speaking to journalists on Friday, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the remarks were dangerous and could undermine ongoing security efforts by both state and federal authorities.

“The statements made by the former governor were not only inciting but reckless,” Waiya said.

“They could weaken collective efforts to tackle insecurity in the state.”

The Council expressed concern that, less than 48 hours after the remarks, suspected bandits attacked border communities, raising questions about whether the comments were premeditated or linked to the assault.

“We don’t know what Ganduje intended with those statements,” the commissioner added.

“He must be investigated to ensure he does not destabilise peace in the state.”

The government reiterated its appreciation to the Federal Government and security agencies for their support in combating insecurity.

It also warned that no individual or group would be allowed to form illegal militias under any guise.

The Council urged public office holders and political figures to avoid statements that could incite unrest and assured residents of its commitment to maintaining peace and law and order in Kano.
