Kano lawmakers: No rift between governor, Kwankwaso

The leadership of the Kano State House of Assembly says there is no faction or rift within the ruling New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) as speculated by some online media outlets.

The Majority Leader of the House, Lawan Husseini, said this while briefing Assembly correspondents in Kano on Monday, November 4, 2024.

Husseini said this press conference was in reaction to a news report by an online media that 23 out of the 26 NNPP members were in support of a political slogan, “Abba Tsaya da Kafarka” meaning “Abba, stand on your feet”.

Husseini also described the report that Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf snubbed meetings and refused to answer the calls of the party chieftain, Rabiu Kwankwaso, as a “fabricated story by the opposition”.

The House leader also accused the opposition of trying to create another toxic situation in Kano State.

He accused Abuja-based opposition politicians of creating unnecessary tension to distract the governor from fulfilling his campaign promises.

Husseini said: “This is a fabricated story spread by mischief makers; their aim is to cause disharmony between Governor Yusuf and his political mentor.

“We, honourable members, are one hundred per cent loyal to party leadership under Sen Kwankwaso and also solidly behind Governor Yusuf.

“Abuja-based opposition politicians are hell-bent on creating rancour or chaos between Kwankwaso and his political son.

“The relationship between these two gentlemen existed for decades and is beyond politics.

“We are not aware or heard of any movement or slogan calling for disunity among party members.”

He further restated the lawmakers’ commitment to ensuring effective service delivery.

Two Kano NNPP federal lawmakers dumped the Kwankwasiyya Movement on Sunday, November 3.

The two lawmakers publicly announced their departure from the Kwankwasiyya Movement under the party’s national leader, Kwankwaso.

The two members are the principal officer of the House of Representatives, Aliyu Sani-Madakin Gini, who represents Kano Municipal Federal Constituency; and Alhassan Rurum, representing Rano/Kibiya/Bunkure Federal Constituency in Kano State.
