Katsina United player declared dead after field collapse wakes up in mortuary

Confusion has surrounded the condition of Katsina United defender Ozor Chinedu after the 18-year-old footballer collapsed during a pre-season friendly against Niger Tornadoes at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina on Tuesday.

Chinedu, who recently joined Katsina United from Kano Pillars, slumped on the pitch during the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-season Cup clash and was rushed to K-Dara Specialist Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Following the announcement, Katsina United released a condolence statement, while several clubs, including Heartland FC and Kano Pillars, paid tribute to the young defender on social media.

However, the situation took a dramatic turn when staff at the mortuary of Katsina General Hospital reportedly noticed signs of movement in his body.

It was gathered that the footballer was immediately transferred to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where he was placed on oxygen support.

Katsina United’s media officer, Nasir Gide, confirmed the development, revealing that the player had been declared dead twice before hospital personnel detected signs of life.

Heartland FC, one of Chinedu’s former clubs, also acknowledged the latest development and appealed to supporters to pray for the defender’s recovery.

As of Wednesday morning, Chinedu remained in critical condition at Katsina General Hospital, with the football community awaiting an official medical report on his condition.
