The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of nine bodies along the Wawa-Lumma road in Borgu Local Government Area of the state.
The victims were suspected to have been killed by bandits while travelling along the route.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria in Minna on Wednesday.
Abiodun said the bodies were recovered after the command received information about the incident on Tuesday, prompting the deployment of police and military tactical teams to the area.
“Police and military tactical teams were mobilised to the scene; the bodies recovered, while clearance operation was intensified to secure the area,” he said.
The police spokesperson said security forces had intensified clearance operations along the route to eliminate potential threats and restore safety to commuters.
He assured residents that security agencies would continue to work to secure the affected communities and prevent further attacks.
