The Kebbi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that it will boycott the party’s national convention scheduled for Saturday in Ibadan, Oyo State, citing objections to the candidacy of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki for national chairman.
In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Sani Dododo, the chapter said Turaki is not a legitimate contender for the position, noting that he was suspended by his Nasarawa 1 Ward in April 2023 for alleged gross misconduct, anti-party activities and failure to pay party dues.
Seven other members, including former governorship candidate Gen. Bello S. Yaki, were suspended alongside him.
The Kebbi PDP reaffirmed its stance in a petition dated October 25, 2025, addressed to the chairman of the national convention screening committee.
The petition, signed by State Chairman Alhaji Usman Bello Suru and Secretary Abubakar Bawa Kalgo, included endorsements from members of both the state working committee and non-working committee, all rejecting Turaki’s nomination.
The chapter emphasised that anyone presenting themselves as a delegate from Kebbi at the convention would be doing so without its approval, adding that all accredited delegates from the state would remain at home in protest.
Despite Kebbi’s boycott, the national convention is expected to proceed with participation from other states and party stakeholders.
