The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has commenced offtake of 10 megawatts of solar power from the Haske Solar Plant, located within the Challawa Industrial Cluster in Kano.
The move follows a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed with Haske Solar Company Ltd, developed by the Federal Government through the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) and managed by the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI).
The 10MW facility, commissioned in January 2023, is Nigeria’s largest grid-connected solar power plant.
In a statement on Thursday, KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, Sani Bala Sani, confirmed that the agreement was signed in Abuja by the company’s MD/CEO, Dr. Abubakar Shuaibu Jimeta, and Executive Director, Portfolio Management, Tajudeen Datti Ahmed, with the signing witnessed by Future Energies Africa (FEA) Managing Director, Yusuf Yahaya.
Dr. Jimeta described the partnership as a milestone in KEDCO’s drive to deliver sustainable electricity across its network.
“This initiative strengthens our supply mix, boosts network efficiency, and contributes to Nigeria’s energy transition goals.
“The energy is already being evacuated through our Abattoir Injection Substation and supplied to industrial customers via NBC 11KV and Ceramic 11KV feeders,” he said.
Yahaya, representing KEDCO’s core investor, Future Energies Africa, pledged continued investment in renewable energy solutions to enhance power supply in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa States.
KEDCO commended the Federal Government, NSIA, MOFI, and the Kano State Government for supporting the project, stressing that more renewable energy partnerships are under consideration as part of its broader diversification strategy.
