Kogi govt distributes relief materials to flood victims

The Kogi State Government has distributed food items and medical consumables to victims of flood across the state, expressing commitment to catering for the needs of those displaced by the flood.

Kogi State has been ravaged by flood in the past few weeks as thousands were sacked from their homes by the flood that affected nine Local Government Areas in the state including Lokoja, the state capital.

Governor Yahaya Bello had visited the flood affected areas, assuring them of his administration’s commitment to provide palliatives to the victims.

In fulfilment of the promise, the State Government, in collaboration with the Local Government Areas in the state, provided foodstuffs, medical consumables and medical services to the people to help cushion the effect of the flood on them.

One of the victims of the flood who resides in Kotonkarfe, Abubakar Musa, told reporters that the state government has shown that it cares for the victims of flood.

He said: “This year’s flood was devastating as you can see that thousands of our people were displaced. We went through a lot but we thank our House Governor who has come to our aid.

“We have received food items, drugs, nets and medical officers also rendered services to us. We thank the Governor for identifying with us in this trying period”.

Another beneficiary in Lokoja, Adamu Kadiri said Governor Yahaya Bello has once again proven his love for the people.

“He came to see us here in a boat and today, he has topped it up with food, drugs and medical services. He is a governor that stands with the people,” he said.

In his own remarks, the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Deedat Ozigi, told newsmen that the governor has told government officials to ensure the materials are given to only those affected by the flood.

He also said local government chairmen of affected areas have been urged to support the state government’s efforts at providing adequate security for all IDP camps in their respective local government areas.
