A woman who was allegedly set ablaze by her husband in Lokoja, Kogi State, has appealed for forgiveness for him despite the attack.
The victim, Mrs Berida Irawo, was reportedly attacked by her husband, Jacob Irawo, following a domestic disagreement at Oworo Estate, Felele, Lokoja, on Friday, August 14, 2026.
The Kogi State Police Command subsequently arrested Jacob over alleged attempted culpable homicide.
Preliminary police findings indicated that the incident followed a disagreement after Berida reportedly burnt some of her husband’s clothes which she believed he was no longer using, without his permission.
According to the investigation, Jacob allegedly became angry, threatened his wife, fetched petrol from his motorcycle and set her ablaze.
A pastor, John Esiga Abu, who visited the victim at the hospital on Tuesday, August 18, confirmed that she had appealed for her husband to be forgiven.
Abu also clarified reports surrounding the suspect’s identity, saying Jacob is not a pastor but a teacher.
The police are expected to continue investigations into the incident.
