Kwankwaso sets conditions for possible return to APC

National leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared that he is open to rejoining the All Progressives Congress (APC), but only if certain conditions are met.

Speaking at a meeting with NNPP stakeholders in Kano, Kwankwaso stressed that his political movement must be formally recognised and its members assured of clear benefits before any return to the ruling party can happen.

He recalled his role in the formation of the APC, lamenting that despite the sacrifices he and his allies made, they were sidelined throughout former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

“We paid the price to build APC, yet when the party came to power, they gave us nothing—not even a thank you—because our PDP faction didn’t start with them,” he said.

Kwankwaso recounted the challenges faced during the party’s early days, including arrests of lawmakers and personal attacks through anti-graft agencies and security agencies.

He noted that while his group laid the groundwork for APC’s emergence, others are now reaping the benefits.

On conditions for his return, Kwankwaso asked: “What will be the fate of our governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, our senators, reps, and others in government? If we are to rejoin the APC, these issues must be addressed.”

He emphasised that he is not opposed to reconciliation but insisted it must be based on honesty and transparency.

“We’re not in a hurry to leave the NNPP, but if there are people who want to work with us sincerely, without treating us the way we were treated in the past, we are ready,” he stated.
