The Lagos State Government has apprehended 396 beggars in a coordinated environmental sanitation enforcement operation aimed at promoting a cleaner, safer, and more orderly state.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this via a video shared on his X account on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
Wahab said the operation was carried out by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps as part of the government’s efforts to improve environmental sanitation and curb illegal activities.
He said the apprehended persons would be profiled before receiving appropriate assistance where necessary.

The commissioner added that they would subsequently be handed over to the appropriate authorities for safe return to their respective states.
Wahab said the exercise underscored the state government’s commitment to maintaining public order, protecting the environment, and improving safety.
He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to sustain enforcement operations aimed at ensuring environmental cleanliness and enhancing residents’ quality of life.
